Commissions — Work With Me

I make landscape, nature, and travel photographs for organizations whose work depends on people caring about a place — tourism boards and DMOs, land trusts and conservation groups, public gardens and public land agencies, outdoor outfitters, magazines and brands. Based in Central Oregon, available across the American West and worldwide.

Tourism & Destination Marketing

Destination imagery for tourism boards, destination marketing organizations, tour operators, lodges, resorts, and adventure-travel brands.

Most destination briefs come down to one problem: you need a library that makes a place look like itself in every season, with real people in it, shot consistently enough to hold together across a campaign. That is the work — seasonal shoots planned around light and conditions rather than a single travel week, landscape and lifestyle captured on the same trip, and files delivered ready for web, print, out-of-home, social, and SEO.

  • Seasonal and campaign shoots, planned around conditions
  • Destination image libraries built to a shot list
  • Landscape, adventure, and lifestyle in one production
  • Hero imagery for web, print, and out-of-home
  • Trail, park, waterway, and scenic-byway coverage

SEO-optimized imagery, 360°, and virtual tours

For a destination marketing organization, imagery is not just a brand asset — it is search inventory. Optimized photography, 360° panoramas, and virtual tours are what make the locations, attractions, and member businesses in your region findable: they strengthen Google Business Profile and Bing Places listings, feed Google Maps and Street View, and earn image-search traffic that a generic stock library never will.

I shoot and prepare imagery built for exactly those placements — correct aspect ratios and resolutions for each slot, exterior, interior, and team coverage in the categories listings actually reward, and descriptive file naming, alt text, geotagging, and structured captions so every image is attributable to the right place. This is the same work I do on the search side, so the photography and the SEO are planned together rather than bolted on afterward.

360° panoramas and walkthrough virtual tours cover the places people want to see before they commit — trailheads, visitor centers, lodging, tasting rooms, museums, galleries, and event venues. They publish to Google Maps and Street View, embed on your own site or a member business’s, or ship as standalone files you own outright. For larger immersive and VR builds, that work runs through my studio, superswellVR.

  • SEO-optimized image sets for destination, attraction, and member-business pages
  • Google Business Profile and Bing Places photo sets, sized and categorized per platform
  • 360° panoramas published to Google Maps and Street View
  • Multi-node virtual tours of attractions, trailheads, lodging, and venues
  • Geotagged, descriptively named, alt-texted files built for image search
  • Refresh shoots to keep listings and tours current season to season

Land Trusts, Nature & Conservation

Storytelling photography for land trusts, nature organizations, conservation groups, environmental nonprofits, and public land agencies.

Conservation work is the part of this job I care most about, and it asks for something different than tourism work does. A protected property has to be photographed so a donor understands why it matters, a grant officer can see the habitat, and a board can put it on the cover. That usually means going back to the same ground across seasons, photographing restoration and stewardship as it actually happens, and making portraits of the staff and volunteers doing it.

Past and ongoing conservation and public-lands work includes Deschutes Land Trust, Quechua Benefit in Peru, Ecology in Classrooms & Outdoors, the World Forestry Center, the National Park Service, and California State Parks.

  • Annual reports, donor materials, and grant applications
  • Preserve, habitat, and restoration documentation over time
  • Capital and stewardship campaign imagery
  • Volunteer, staff, and community portraits on location
  • Event and field-day coverage

Editorial & Brand

Assignments for magazines, outdoor outfitters and gear brands, and branded content — from a single environmental portrait to a multi-day backcountry production, delivered on an editorial timeline.

I came up in publishing before I came up in photography — writing for Primedia and Condé Nast titles, then founding and running a national newsstand magazine — so I am comfortable working to a brief, an art director, and a close deadline. Commercial and brand clients have included Airbnb, 500px Studio, and Trivago. More on the background here.

Gardens, Public Lands & Outdoor Brands

Straight nature and garden assignments — public gardens, botanical gardens and arboretums, parks departments and public land agencies, native plant societies, farms and nurseries, and the outdoor outfitters, guides, and gear brands who work on that ground.

Oakwood Gardens, Oregon — a public garden photographed across the full season.

This is the work behind Plants n’ Pergolas and much of Places: gardens photographed across a full season so a bloom calendar actually has pictures behind it, trail and trailhead coverage for parks and land agencies, and product and lifestyle work for outfitters that has to look like the outdoors rather than a studio. Botanical and macro work is a genuine speciality, not a sideline.

  • Public gardens, arboretums, and botanical collections, shot across the season
  • Native plants, pollinators, and habitat — macro through landscape
  • Parks, trails, campgrounds, and public land agency assignments
  • Outfitters, guides, and gear brands on location
  • Farms, nurseries, and growers

How it Works

  1. Tell me the brief. What the images are for, where they will run, and when you need them. A rough shot list helps; so does a budget range.
  2. I scope it. You get a written proposal with day rate or project fee, travel, deliverable counts, licensing, and a shooting window chosen around season and light.
  3. We shoot. Half-day, full-day, or multi-day. For seasonal libraries this is usually several trips across the year rather than one.
  4. You get the files. Curated, retouched, captioned, and keyword-tagged, delivered through a gallery you can share internally — typically within two weeks, faster if the campaign needs it.

Licensing & Usage

Licensing is written into the proposal rather than left vague. Most tourism and conservation clients take a multi-year, multi-channel license covering web, print, social, and campaign use; buyouts and exclusivity are available when a campaign needs them. Nonprofits and land trusts get nonprofit rates — ask. I retain copyright and the right to show the work in my portfolio unless we agree otherwise, and credit is appreciated wherever it fits.

Where I Work

Based in Central Oregon — Bend, Sisters, the Cascade Lakes, Smith Rock, and the Metolius corridor — with no travel fee anywhere in the region. Regular work across the American West: Mount Hood, the Columbia River Gorge, the Oregon coast and high desert, Portland, and the national parks from Olympic to Yosemite to Bryce Canyon. International assignments to date include the Peruvian Andes and Sri Lanka, and I travel for work worldwide.
