As you are all aware, a big part of the mission of my life, especially in the current climate in the United States, is to help bring science and nature to the up-and-coming generations. I'm attempting to do this by using emerging imaging technologies like virtual reality and augmented reality to introduce them and help stoke their curiosity in our natural world. This is a generation coming up that will never know a world in which these technologies do not exist, and I am determined to take full advantage of that.
So it is with great pleasure that I have accepted a role as board member of Ecology in Classrooms & Outdoors (ECO). ECO is a non-profit organization based in Portland, Oregon who have, over the span of their 13 years of existence, helped introduce almost 20,000 K-5 kids to nature, using interactive and hands-on games, exercises, and field trips. Many of these kids come from under-served neighborhoods and have never set foot in a forest or on a beach before in their lives.
Needless to say, I am absolutely honored that they felt I have something of value to offer the organization. We've already begun discussing many exciting projects and collaborations, so stay tuned.
In the meantime, we are in the midst of the year-end fundraising period for non-profits around the world, so if you're looking for some last-minute tax deductions while helping save the world at the same time, click here to drop a buck or two into ECO's coffers. 10 measly dollars is enough to bring a future scientist, ecologist, forester, or conservationist into the program. Doooo it!!
